What is the Superfoods Series?
When we think of superfoods, we often picture these out-of-reach & expensive-sounding foods like quinoa, turmeric root, or goji berries. In reality, these foods have very small health benefits and are not deserving of the hype they are given. Novelty.
What I would call a superfood is one that has more profound, ubiquitous impacts on health, is accessible and affordable, and also has a minimal environmental footprint.
These foods are not what you might expect.
Something else that is important to consider is how, where and when a food is grown, transported stored and cooked. Changing these can drastically affect the healthiness and environmental impact of a food.
This is a lot to think about, which is why I have compiled a list of my top superfoods that are healthy, sustainable, and generally produced in ways that don’t bring down their positive impact.
